Who We Are
We are a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in emerging countries worldwide. A collaboration of engineers, researchers, students, and professionals from every walk of life, we work hand-in-hand with developing communities to implement sustainable engineering projects, while fostering responsible leadership.
What We Do
We have ongoing projects all over the world including local projects in Southern California. For each project we have sent members on assessment trips to understand community needs and gather technical information. Members then design long term sustainable solutions and return to the communities for construction and implementation. To promote sustainability, construction is performed by the local community under our oversight.
How We’re Funded
Projects are funded by corporate and individual donations and local fundraising efforts. Our largest fundraising event is our annual Corporate Cup Challenge, where teams of employees from local companies compete against one another for bragging rights in addition to raising money for our projects.
Organization
We are part of the West Coast Regional section of the Engineers Without Borders USA and there are regional and national meetings that we often attend to network and share ideas with other chapters. Our chapter works with local student chapters to provide mentors whenever there is a need and a volunteer available to fill that need. Within our own chapter, we have a leadership team, committee chairs, and a Project Lead for each ongoing projects.
Mission
Engineers Without Borders USA builds a better world through engineering projects that empower communities to meet their basic human needs and equip leaders to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.
Vision
EWB-USA’s vision is a world in which every community has the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs.
